Award Nominations
Academia Sinica (AS) is the most preeminent academic institution in Taiwan . Its academicians are all internationally well-known scholars. Among its 235 academicians, there are 6 Nobel laureates and winners of distinguished international prizes such as The Balzan Prize, The Shaw Prize, The National Medal of Science of USA, The Fields Medal, The A.M. Turing Award, The Crafoord Prize, Claude S. Hudson Award, and Trieste Science Prize. Every year Academia Sinica receives invitations for nomination of various prestigious international awards. International Affairs Office is responsible for recommending a list of potential candidates upon receiving these invitations and submits the list to the President for final decision. The following is the awards to which AS regularly sends its nominations.

Dr. Wen-Hsiung Li was awarded Balzan Prizes 2003 in Genetics and Evolution
Dr. Paul Jen-Kuei Li was awarded the 2005 TAF Award in the Humanities
Dr. Andrew H.-J. Wang was awarded 2007 TAF Awards in Science and Technology
TWAS Prizes and Trieste Science Prize
TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world, represents the best of science in the developing world. Its principal aim is to promote scientific capacity and excellence for sustainable development in the South. Each year the Academy will award eight prizes of US$10,000 each to individual scientists from developing countries who have made outstanding contributions to knowledge in eight fields of science, which are well known as TWAS Prizes. In addition, TWAS and Illycaffè s.p.a. have launched the Trieste Science Prize. Two prizes are given annually to eminent scientists living and working in developing countries who have made significant contributions to global science.
Each year Academia Sinica nominates distinguished researchers to TWAS for the honor of TWAS Prizes and the Trieste Prizes. In the past 2 years, there are 2 Academician and 1 professor received the prizes:
